Smut Slam DC
Where Sex and Storytelling Collide in the Capital
Smut Slam DC is a monthly, real-life, first-person storytelling open mic that’s all about sex. It was the first branch off of the original Smut Slam created by artist and educator Cameryn Moore, and it sparked the creation of Smut Slam International in as many as 17 cities in 12 countries on 4 continents around the globe. In pre-COVID times, the show played to sold-out houses every month in Washington, DC bars (most recently The Brixton). During the pandemic, Cameryn and I have kept the show alive virtually with Smut Slam Europe and Smut Slam DC online, respectively.
At each show, 6-8 storytellers are drawn randomly from the sign-ups to tell a 5 minute true story from their sex lives, often around the theme of the night. A panel of local celebrity judges chooses the top 3 tellers, who win sex toy prizes from our sponsors. There’s also the Fuckbucket, where audience members can write in anonymous sexy questions and confessions, and the host reads them aloud from the stage. Njoy Sex Toys sponsors the Fuckbucket, so one lucky winner drawn from it wins a brand-new stainless-steel toy.
It’s rowdy, raunchy, and fun to be sure, but it’s also a carefully-maintained safer space with clear house rules and zero tolerance for bullshit. All the shows have a big queer, trans, polyamorous, kink, sex worker, and sex educator following and bring in a community that includes people of all ages (18+), sizes, races, genders, abilities, and walks of life. Smut Slam DC is ASL interpreted and offers gift tickets and early bird discounts as part of my commitment to accessibility. I partner with organizations including Planned Parenthood and HIPS to help promote and support their work, and Smut Slam DC is a proud supporter of the Woodhull Freedom Foundation and participant in their annual Sexual Freedom Summit.
Smut Slam DC’s judge panels have included everyone from local burlesque performers and drag artists, to current and former sex workers, to local kink and LGBTQIA+ leaders, to sex-positive makers and business owners, to “takeovers” by our friends at organizations from District Karaoke to the DC Department of Health.
Got something sex- or body-positive to promote, and give good judgy-face? Contact me about being a judge! Never been to a Smut Slam before? Hop over to my Upcoming Events to get tickets for the next show. See you there, Slamily!

Anonymous Sex, Vol. I now available in print or ebook
Our Fuckbucket entries are just too good to keep to ourselves, so our Smut Slam International pandemic project was to finally publish the first-ever collection of anonymous sexy confessions and questions from shows all over the world.
This labor of lust includes over 200 of our favorite confessions grouped by theme, and sprinkled throughout with original commissioned erotic illustrations inspired by Fuckbucket confessions. Plus, Smut Slam hosts from around the world chose a handful of the questions we found most intriguing and answered them to bring a little sexy education to the table. The book includes images of handwritten entries, the Smut Slam Code of Conduct, and the history of Smut Slam International and the Fuckbucket.
Illustrations by Avid (Washington DC), Jo Sordini (Berlin), GUNK (Cardiff), Joe Largess (Washington DC), and Sól Hilmars (Reykjavik). Smut Slam host contributors are Cameryn Moore (Berlin), Lucas Brooks (Boston), Helvetica Bold (Ottawa), and Diva Darling (Washington DC).
